How much should I bet per horse race?

This page will help you decide how much to bet on each race and how much to start with in your betting bank.

There will be 1 of 3 questions you might be asking right now

1. How much can I afford to put aside into my betting bank?

2. How much do I want to bet on each race?

3. How much do I want to make each month?

Here are the answers to those questions

Question 1 Question 2 Question 3
How much in your bank How much to bet Monthly Profit Target
£300 £10 £150 - £400
£750 £25 £400 - £1000
£1500 £50 £800 - £1900
£3000 £100 £1600 - £3800

1. You need to have a betting bank which you will grow as the weeks and months progress into a nice little nest egg. The betting bank should be 30 times the standard bet you intend to place. The amount in the betting bank must be enough to cover a worse case scenario of your first 4 bets winning their races and give room to regrow the bank. This is rare but has happened.

2. If you want to start with just £10 bets you can. You can also start with £100 bets. You need to choose an amount you feel comfortable with. Remember you will have to occasionally place 3rd top up bets that are 7 times your original stake. On £100 standard bets this is £800. Make sure you have the nerve and are comfortable staking this amount before deciding. If in doubt start low and build up to bigger stakes when you have more confidence.

3. Depending on whether you want to make a good second income, full time income or just some pocket money will influence your standard bet amount and your betting bank. If you are looking to make a few hundred pounds a month a £10 stake and £300 bank will suffice. If you want to make a couple of thousand you will need £100 stakes and a £3000 betting bank or maybe higher if you like.
